Landscape Setup

Ever wanted to create that great level and world and wonder how to do that. Well now is the time!

We are going to create a brand new project with a 3rd person setup. We are then going to create a new level. File > New level > Basic and select create.

We are going to save our map under a Maps folder and name Map_Environment.

We then are going to delete our floor so our world will now look like an empty space.

We are now going to select mode and change it to Landscape. When we do this we get this large green grid.

Our starting size is probably too large for this example so let’s change the size to 63x63 quads and click create. Now we have a terrain.

We have multiple brushes that changes the height of our terrain. We can raise, lower, flatten, and a few other brushes, but we will mainly focus on those 3. We can change our tools strength, falloff, and size.

So a good starting point is to block the player into a player in a play area. So drawing some mountains along the edge helps confine our player to a designated world. We are going to use the sculpt brush to create some mountains or hills that will live in the distance.

Save our level when complete.
